D [RECTOR’S REPORT. The Director of the School of Mines (Professor Park) presented to tho Otago University Council yesterday aftenioonL, report, from which' we take the following —Diplomas and Certificates.— The following are the names of students to whom diplomas and certificates were issued - Philip Hastings M'Douall, 8.E.. certificate of land .and mhie surveyor. M’Padden, B.Sr.. diploma of associate in mining. A. M. 1' inlay son, M.Sc., diploma of associate in geology. Olnf Moen, A.0.5.M., diploma of associate in metallurgy. Alfred L. Heale, diploma of associate in mining. E. D. Isaacson, diploma of associate in mining. Norman M. Shand, diploma of associate in mining, diploma of associate in metallurgy. certificate of laud and mine surveyor. —New Zealand University Examinations.— The results of the November examinations were as under ; Honors in science.— C. A. Cotton, first eloss in geology. J. A. Bartrnm, first class in geology, third class in physics. Final B.E. (Mining).—P. Hastings M’Donall. W. Gibson. ~ Final B.E. (Metallurgy).—Gerhardt C. Ulrich. The Ulrich Medal for 1907 was won by Edward F. Roberts. —Exhibition Scholarship.— For the fourth time Otago secured this scholarship. The following statement shows the dates : 1904.—1 ;A. E. Andrew, M.Sc., A.0.5.M., 2 : J. Allan Thomson, B.Sc., A.O.S.M. Resigned in favor of Rhodes Scholarship. 1906.—5 :R. A. Farqnha.rson. M.Se. Resigned in favor of Rhodes Scholarship. 1307.—4 ; A. M. Finlavson, M.Sc A.O.S.M. —Other Honors.— In the past five years our mining students have secured the following academic distinctions ; —Two Rhodes Scholarships, four 1851 Exhibition Scholarships, four Senior -Scholarships of New Zealand University, seven First Class Honors in Science, five Sir George Grey Scbolarshins, five the M.Sc. Degree, four the B.Sc. Degree, ten the B.E. Degree in Mining and Metallurgy. °
