LOST HIS HAND. P.A. telegram from Gisborne :—A young man, Robt. Burnet, hud his login u.uiu caught in the pug mill at the brick works, necessitating the amputation of the hand. FELL OVER A CLIFF. / Thomas Fanning, nine years of age, who was received into the hospital yesterday from Gatlin River, suffering from a fracture of the skull and a broken thigh sustained through failing down an embankment, is progressing as well as can be existed after an operation had been performed on him. WAS IT DRINK? Telegraphed per Press Association from Auckland: Thomas Pink was arrested for drunkenness at Henderson on Friday night and placed in a cell at the Auckland police station whilst apparently asleep. Attempts to wake him failed till Sunday, when he complained of feeling queer, aiid was removed to the hospital, where he died. An inquest has been opened and adjourned. ’
