DEFENCE COMMAND.
OTAGO NOT YET DECIDED ON. We are in a position to say that tho command of the Otago volunteer district lias not yet been decided on. Colonel Abbott, of Auckland, was mentioned as a probable successor to Colonel Robin (ap2K>inted a member of tho Council of Defence), but ho has to go Home for a period of six months, beginning in March next. Tho command of tho Otago district will be settled in a few clays. Colonel Baiichop goes to Wellington in Colonel Webb's place, and will bo followed in the command of the Canterbury district by Colonel Hawkins (Southland).
