A GRUESOME STORY.
Reference wa* made* ai Thursday night’s meeting of tho Auckland Trades and Labor Council lo the treatment accorded to the body of tho man Clarke, who was killed in the Gallic]*? dock accident. Mr Dauthereau, of Dcvonport, stated that the body was loft in an old shod to be rateaten* and was then placed in a box and carted away in a dray at throe- o'clock in the morning. Ho considered tho way in which U>© body had been neglected was disgraceful. When the body was recovered after the accident it was carried along the main water front uncovered, and followed by a crowd. It was thon allowed lo lie on a ladder carelessly placed in the hotel outhouse, and later on some children mentioned tho state of affairs to two women, who out of compassion made a wreath and visited tho body. On their visit . the women noticed a movement under a sack thrown over the feet of the deceased, and on making investigations they then found an army of nils. The women promptly complained at the police station, and a constable was put on guard to keep the rats away from tlie body. Mr Dauthereau moved — 21 That the Council condemn the action of the parties responsible for their disgraceful neglect of the body of the late Mr Clarke.” Mr Rosser seconded, and after several delegates bad spoken tho motion was earned, and an instruction given that a. copv of it be sent to tho Minister of Public ‘Health. It is understood that the parents of deceased are residents of Brisbane, and that they arc now on their wav to New* Zealand.
