A correspondent writes from Port CliaJmera:—At both sheds in the Lower Harbor just now the members are working for all they are worth to get fit to try and keep up the prestige of Port Chalmers in rowing, and really it is a good thing to see all the rowing men down here working sido by side all day, and then in the evening going to the opposite sheds in a spirit of friendly rivalry. At the Drive elsed. tho senior fours are going great guns, and are evidently determined to catch the judge' 6 eye first on Boxing. Day. I notice a great change in the Eeating of the crew to what we have been used to for a number of years, as Tommy Wright, the stroke of so many winning crews (including two Championship Fours), is rowing No. 2. Whether ihe change is wise-or not remaino to be seen, but as Porter is rowing stroke there '3 no disputing his ability to do justice to his crew, and as three of the crew have already won championships there there seems to bo life in the old dogs yet. The junior fours are evidently going to try and jepeat last year's successes, and arc training bard, and their maiden four will take some heating. If my memory serves me right, they rowed for the Port thed last year. I noticed a double-sculling boat out from this .shod, but I am not sure whether they are going for the junior or maiden race* but whichever they do tbey ought to make a. good raeo of it. Their youths are not so far advanced as they generally are from tho Drive ehed. Scrolling round to the Port shod, the first tiling that strikes tho eye in tho way the shed is being closed in by the building <sf the new dock, and the sooner they win enough money to .shift with the better. While I was waiting and wondering, who should appear but the ever-youthful Frank Keenan, who, with Tommy Wright as etroke, won their first championship something like a dozen years ago. He has put on a lot of weight s4ncc then, but he :s going to have one more go on Boxing Day. I wonder how often he has been persuaded to have ono more go, but it does one good to see how he steps into his seat and gets liis mow under way. The senior four from this shed will take some shaking off before they are done with, as they are rowing together like a _piece ol clockwork, and it should be a great go be-

tween them and the Drive, unless, as a little bird whispers, the North End have got something hot in store for them all this year. If they have theirs would be a very popular win down here. The .Port youths are a splendid ect of young chaps, and should abont win. There is no junior four from this ehed this year, but (he maidens seem to be doing very welL The junior pair have not been ,out very often, and I am told they will have to get a move on if thoy-want to win. I noticed tho North End pair having a. quiet row from the Drive shod on Sunday morning. I nnderstand the-• four were to be \ down, but something" hindered one of the crew comrog. *"
