ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS.

» ♦ The Dunedin Accountant Students' Sodoty hold their fortnightly meeting last night in the Chamber of Commerce. There was a good attendance, members being really interested in the doings of the society, ;ind Mr R. Hanning presided. Mr A. Johnston Brown, F.I.AJJ.Z., president of the society, gave an able address on the subject of 'Partnership Accounts.' The paper was based upon a subject dealing with joint accounts and partnership settlements, and a most pleasant, entertaining, and profitable evening was spent. To the members of the society the illustrations of practical business were highly advantageous and quite out of the principals of theoretical accounting. One special advice to members was to first make sure of their facts, then act. The intricacies of .arbitrators were referred to, and the whole lecture was full of sound judgment ;wid excellent advice to budding accountants. At the conclusion tho lecturer was warmly applauded and accorded a, very hearty vote of thanks. Mr Peter Barr announced the result of the prize essay competition upon tho subject of 'The Advantages in General Business of a Knowledge of Accountancy.' The firs*, prize is won by Herbert Bolton (of Wellington), and the second by A. Ho re (also of Wellington). For tho special prizes to members of the Dunedin Accountant. Students' Society tho results were:—ll. Hanning (W. Brown's prize and Messrs Barr, I/cary, and Co.'s prize) 1, H. Mackesaek (Mr W. Brown's second prize) 2, J. B. Brugh (Mr W. Brown's third prize) At the next meeting Mr J. M. E. Callaway will lecture upon ' The Liability of Directors in Relation to the Payment of Dividends.'
