Mr Bedford defended.—lnspector Lomas said that the defendant was the occupier of a fruit and vegetatto shop. In addition to these articles, he sold butter, eggs, and cigarettes. His wife admitted that the shop was open on the Wednesday, and when he (the inspector) visited tho shop on the following Saturday cigarettes, butter, and eggs were on the shelf.—Defendant said he had not closed on the Wednesday, and would have to admit the offence.—Mr Bedford said that the defendant had never sold cigarettes on tho statutory half-holiday. He practically had two shops.—Defendant gave evidence to tie effect that on Wednesday he put tie cigarettes, butter, and eggs away in another part of the shop.—His Worship inflicted a fine of £3 and costs (7s). Maintenance.—Bert Morrison applied for a compromise for the rnamtenaiooe of his child—ffismely, by the payment of a burp sum instead of weekly payments. Mr W. L. Moore appeared in support of the appljl cation—Mr WSUonson said that he bad advised the cornplarnajit to accept tie compromise, as there had been no chance of getting any money in the past.—His Worship made an order by consent, fixing the sum of £2O in Eeu of and as compensation for weekly payments under an order of the 10th oi July last.
