THE DOCK TRUST.

TO-DATS MEETING.

A meeting of the Dock Trust was held a* Port Chalmers this afternoon; present— Messrs Cable (acting-chairman), Barclay, Denmston, Cray, Godfred, Stevenson, and Knewstubb. The Trust's counsel (Mr Bosking) and solicitor (Mr Platte) were aba present.

The Acting - chairman, in introducing the business, stated that it had previously been decided to give notice to the dock contractors (Messrs Luttrell and Scott) that unless they proceeded with the work in a given time the Trust would do so at their expense. Work was resumed, but no communication was received at the time from the contractors, hence the present meeting was called. That day the contractors had written tha* they were going on with the work. He (Mr Cable) advised that the Board should go into committee. This suggestion was adopted, bwtWbscquently, on the motion of Mr Cray, the correspondence from Messrs Lnttrell and Scott, and from the Board's engineer in reply was handed to the Press. Messrs Luttrell and Scott wrote that, in compliance with the requirements expressed in the Dock Trust's notice of the 10th inst., they were proceeding with the construction of tho dock forthwith, adopting such methods as were possible for. its completion, subject io the engineer's reserving, without prejudice, all their own. rights. Mr Hay wrote, in reply to the contractors, deprecating that the work had been practically stopped for the last four weeks. He regretted that the work generally since its inception had been of such a dilatory nature. Ho trusted that it would now beenergetically prosecuted, and that the contractors' efforts would' ensure the completion of the dock in due time, as it was urgently required. This correspondence was received.
