[Special to the Star.] AUCKLAND, August 6. The Public Health authorities have of late been., keeping strict supervision over foodsupplying establishments, and in consequence several breaches; of the ; Health Act have; been discovered. Last •week one dairyman was convicted,for milking a cow without /washing his handa'aod- taking milk from a cow "before tbo. udder and teats bad been .thoroughly cleansed, and failing to clean the milk-ccoler-: receiver, and strainer used in his dairy. • This breach : cost him about £2O.- •' Oh the same day James Ambury.was summoned for having failed to cleanse the; cah3 used about -his dairy within-four; hours of their use. The magistrate in this case';'/while recognising that a serious breach of the Act had been. com--raitted, 'did". ; not consider the .obligation of cleaning :cahs rested with Mr. Ambury or his employees,- who received the milk ;from the farmers;? and returned-the'cans to them. Another casis pending in which a man is summoned fo unlawfully feeding pigs- on meat and offal without first boiling it, .and. also with having swine on his premises in preparation for "sale which were unfit for human consumption. Photographs have been.taken in this case, and show that the conditions under which the pigi were bred were of a most revolting character, the pigs being fed on dead dogs, ; horses, and cattle.
