HOCKEY.

OTAGO v. AUCKLAND. The members of the Auckland hockey team arrived from the North, by the second express Inst evening, and were met on the station by members of the Otago team and of the Otago Hockey Centre, and taken to the Provincial Hotel, ■-where • they will be quartered during their stay here. On arrival there they were welcomed by Mr J. T. Prain (president of the Otago Hockey Centre), on behalf of the Otago team and hockey players in general. Trie Auckland team, he believed, had left with a fairly good reputation, and had come down with the express intention of beating Otago; but he. hoped, that the Otago men would give the visitors a good game, and, if possible, not allow them to go back to Auckland still having the impression that they were the better team. Mr Prain then proposed the toast of "The "Visitors." Mr Porter, captain of the Auckland, team, briefly returned thanks for the yen- cordial welcome extended them. Coming so fap the trip was naturally an expensive one, and they had gone' to considerable trouble to raise sufficient funds. He hoped they would end their trip with even a small surplus. Mr J. A. Park, president of the Otaso Hockey Club, also made a few remarks.

The visitors practised at Tahuna Pari? this morning. To-morrow's match will he held on the Caledonian Ground at 1.30 p.m. Mr J. C. K. Sibbald will act as referee. Otafio will play in light blue jerseys and white knickers; jerseys obtainable at the office of the secretary, Mr E. D. Grace.; The Auckland team will play in navy blue and white jerseys.

The third inter-island hockey match, played at Wanganui yesterday, resulted in a win for the North by 2 goals (scored by Coe) to nil.
