WORK AND WAGES.

TRADES AND LABOR COUNCIL. A largely-attended meeting of the Trades and Labor Council uas held in the Trades Hall last evening, Mr W. Pattison presiding. . The Tramways Committee of the City Council wrote stating that they could iioi> see their way to reconsider thoir previous decision not to grant the use of a room to tlffc Tramways Union for an hour or two once a, month to collect subscriptions. Some adverse criticism was passed on the decision, and it was thought that the Tramways Committee might have granted such a reasonable request, more especially when the Wellington Tramways Committee and the Auckland Tramway Company (owned by a private company) had already* gran ted the same concession. , It was resolved that information be supplied to all the unions concerning the result of the recent carnival. The Secretary of tht Council, as representing organised labor in Ctago, was instructed to notify [ through the Press that the Council had nothing to do.witjh. the private deputation which was- reported to nave waited on

the Premier while Ire was in Dunedin in reference to preference to unionists. It was resolved that the secretary be instructed to write to the Tramways Committee of the City Council asking them to make better provision for the public procuring concession tickets, as the Trader and Labor. Cormcil considered that the few shops supplied with these tickets were altogether inadequate to meet the requirements of the travelling public.
