HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB.

NAPIER, August 3. The balance-sheet of the Jockey Club discloses a most satisfactory state of affairs. It opened with a debit of £749, and closed with a credit of £229. In addition the financial position has been strengthened by the payment of debentures held by private members amounting to £1,000! £366 was spent in improvements, and stakes were increased by £SOO. It was announced at the meeting that Mr T. H. Lowry would donate a. cup trophy, to be given with the Hawke's Bay Cup. At the committee meeting afterwards two applications for renewals of gentlemen riders' licenses were refused. x

A Press Association message sa-YS that the Eltham Gun Club's handicap, of £IOO was shot yesterday. Whittle (New Plymouth) and M'Donald (Wanganui) divided first and second prize money (£80), killing thirteen birds and missing one. Lucena, ißuckman, and Bailey divided third and fourth prizes (£2O). The St. Joseph's Harriers will run from the Wakari School to-morrow.

The following will represent the Otago Boys' High School in their annual inatch with the Ghristchurch Boys' High School at Christchurch on Monday : —King, Bannerman (2), Calder, Smart, .D. M. Reidj Edio (2), Dallas, Budd, Paterson (2), Littlejohn, Do Lautbur. Eriiergencies : Mahoney and Stewart. The Dunedin boys leave by the first express to-morrow in charge of Mr F. H. Campbell.
