ENTERTAINMENTS.

There was a good mid-week houYte at the Alhambra Theatre last night. A rather remarkable trapeze artist appeared hi the person of a boy billed as " Marvellous Syd." Tliis youngster did sonic wonderful work that surprised all who saw him. He is tho best of his 3ge that we have seem. The company are otherwise .unchanged. In the ranks are Sam Wilson, A. L. Cropp, Cravdon, Barton, and Little Jacksdh. Sco'tt brothers, Aubrey Douglas, the Rowell sisters, Clara Keating, the Bertotos, and others.

On Saturday the Bovis brothers, a big specialty act, well known here from their recent connection wiih musical comedy, make a first appearance. Tho mutoscope, with its many attractions, continues to do splendid business in the quarters taken for it next Searlo and Eberhardt's, in Princes street south. Frequent changes are made in the pictures shown. The twenty machines are in fine order. The show is open from 10 a,m. to 11 p.m. Mr W. Downie Stewart delivered a lecture oh his trip through Siberia at the North-east Valley Hall last evening. The proceeds are to "be devoted to the fimds of the North-east Valley Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club. Tho lecture proved most interesting, and elicited frequent and hearty applause. During the.evening songs were rendered by Miss Garter and Mr Olsen. Prizes won during the season were presented by the Mayor (Mr J. Campbell) to Messrs F. G. Booth, W. Cook,-Friend, and W. Bennett.

Tho Jast two nights of the, attractive entertainment at His Majesty's Theatre axe announced. The management intimate that some films will be shown to-night for the first time. A collision df two trains going at high speed is one of the latest pictures, and its genuineness is vouched for. Au atineo performance for ladies and children will be given to-morrow. The Anglican sale of work held at Ravens'bourne on Wednesday and Thursday terminated successfully. The results quite fulfil all expectations, about £4O having been realised. The All Saints' Dramatic Club attended last evening, and pefformed the comedietta entitled 'Freezing a Mother-in-law ' before a large and appreciative audience. The name of Mrs Reynell was omitted from the published list of stallholders.
