SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION.

The Otago Cycling Club tendered a social to their president (Mr H. B. Courtis) in the Victoria Hall last evening. About forty couples took the floor, to the music of Miss Myers and Mr Poole. The hall was artUti cally decorated and the dance most enjoyable. The catering was done by Mr Kroon,

About 9.50, a ■solid marble clock and an illuminated address were presented to Mr Courtis 'by Mr S. S. Myers (vice-president of the ebb).

The address, which was shield-shaped and tastefully framed, read : "H. B. Courtis. Esq., president of the Otago Cycling Clnb.—Dear sir,—We ask you to accept the accompanying clock as a mark of our esteem and appreciation of the many valuable services you have rendered to the club. As president, we have to thank you for the time you have spent and the interest you have shown in advancing our sport.—We remain, dear sir. on behalf of the members of the 0.0.C.. your sincere well-wishers."

It was signed by Messrs S. S. Myers-(vice-president), J. R. Wilson (secretary), and the members of the Committee of the club.

The clock bore the following inscription on a silver plate.—" Presented to H. B. Courtis, Esq.. as a mark of esteem, by the members of the Otago Cycling Club.''" In making the presentation. Mr Myeir said that as committeeman, vice-president, and president Mr Courtis had been connected with the crnb for many years, and during his term of office he had attended almost every meeting and been present to give his advice and assistance. Not onlv had he taken an interest in the Otago Cvcliner Club, but he had given a great deal of time, taken a great deal of interest, and done a great deal of good for cycling in general. He had occupied every possible position at their principal sports "meetings They were sorry to sever their connection with Mr Courtis, and did not intend to do so without giving him some tangible expression of how they considered his services should 'be rewarded.—(Applause.) Apart altogether from cycling, Mr Courtis was well and favorably "known throughout the whole community.* In conclusion Mr Myers *aid that if Mr Courtis got all luck that the members of the club wished him, his life wonld bo happy and prosperous indeed.—(Loud applause.) Mr W. G. Moore also spoke brieflv and happily.

Three hearty cheers were given for the recipient of the presentation, who replied in a few feeling words.
