_ The exports from New Zealand during the quarter ended June 30 amounted ui value to £4,877,322, against £3.437,962 for the corresponding period of the previous year. The exports from the principal ports were :—Lvttelton, £1.014,720; Wellington, £788.309; Auckland, £670,999; Timaru, £438,734: Dunedin, Bluff, £331,772; Napier! £315,351. The imports for the same period were valued at £2,931,702, against £2,246,546 . for the corresponding quarter of last year. The imports at the leading ports were :—Wellington, £1,014,621; Auckland, £625,769; Lvttelton, £488,405: Dunedin, £454,205. A meeting of shareholders in the Dunedin Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Stuart street, last evening, for the purpose of disposing of the one hundred and thirtyfourth appropriation of £SOO in the No. 1 group by sale and of the fifty-third appropriation of £SOO in the No. 2 group by ballot. The former appropriation realised an average of £l2 8s per cent., and the ballot for the latter resulted in cluster No. 143, held by two shareholders, being drawn. Mr G. Tallow : Stock. 8.130 casks; imports, 4,130 casks; deliveries. 5,481 casks. Wheat : Two Australian cargoes sold at 30s 6d and 30s 4£d respectively.

MELBOURNE, August 2. Sir William Lyne has introduced a Bill providing for an increase in the Customs and for a reduction in tho excise duties on spirits. It is riro-osed to increase the Customs duties bv Is per gallon. The excise revisions arc of a complex character.
