HOTELKEEPERS' PROFITS.
TO THE EMTOB. Sir, —Mr Adam, secretary of the largest brewery company in New Zealand, apparently knows very little about the retail pvx>fits derived from the sale of one gallon of pure malt beer. His wild and unguarded statement at a recent meeting of creditors about hotelkeepers making 200 per cent, out of the •sale of beer is nonsense. He seems to forget that hotelkeepers have to cater for those who drink a " pony," a galloway, a medium, a long sleever, and last, but not least, of all a pint, or an "elephant." If Mr Adam could only be induced to spend a week in a bw, where the bulk of the beer is sold for 3d per glass, he would soon find out that the cash register wouldn't show a profit of 200 per cent.—l am, etc., Web Adam Mac Adam.
