HARRIERS.

The following clubs held runs on Saturday:— Dunedin ajid St. Joseph's combined forces in a run from Leven street, Roslyn, as guests of Mr J. B. Callan. A pack of thirty-four followed a good trail laid by W. Foley (Dunedin) and Murphy (St. Joseph's). Proceeding up Levin street, tho harew descended to the Kaikorai Valley, up Frasers Gully, thence up Kirkland Hill to Bunting's store. The main road was then followed in the direction of Ashburn Hail for about a mile, and a turn made into the open country on the left. A circular course brought the pack to the head of Frasers Gully again, and the road was then followed up the hill and home. The clubs were afterwards entertained by "Mr and Mrs Callan, for whose kindness Captains Melville (Dunedin) a,nd Hussey (lit. Joseph's) returned thanks. The fine day and the prospect of a run from Wingatui proved enough to induce a record mus'ter fox the season of the Civil Service Hairiers. Members were not disappointed, as the pack were in good form. The trail (laid by Titcbener and Miller) led over the hills on the north of the racecourse, through the S'ilverstream to the road, along which a turn was taken to within a mile of the Black bridge, then striking off along the North Taiexi road in the direction of the Mineral Springe. Here the trail went across country to the railway line, which was followed to the bridge, leaving which the road was taken towards Mosgi'el; then doubling back through Wingatui to the racecourse. The Y.M.C.A., with the Port Chalmers Harriers as their guests, ran from the Albany street School Gymnasium, the combined pack numbering nearly forty runners. The paper (laid by Scott, Laurenson, and Dar ling), after passing along Eden street, led the pack through some scrub on to the Opoao road. Thiis was followed for u short way, when a turn to the left was made into the North-east Valley, from whence, after having followed ihe Maui road for some distance, Pine Hill was ascended. Upon reaching the open paddocks a stiff breeze made itself felt, and at length was the cause of tho trail being lost. The pack then, under the guidance of the captains, descended into Wcodhaugh, and returned home on the road. After a general cleaning up an adjournment was made to the Y.M.C.A. where the wants of the irmer man were attended to.

Through the kindness of Mr Lan<dcv Pope the Dunedin Anglican ran from °the St. Clair School Gymnasium. A. Wood and A. Kelman were despatched with the bags, ami laid a good trail round the second beaeh and up thesteep winding path mst Cargill's and c-n towards the Caves From here the trail turned inland, and after some crood open running came on to the hills overlooki-mr Burn.side. The homeward trail was laid through Mr Sidev's property nnd down through some hush on to Allandale read, and along Norfolk street back to the gymnashim. After the run several of the members refreshed themselves with a din in the baths. That over, thev were kindlv looked after at afternoon tea bv Mrs and Miss Pope and Mns Georrre RMh, to whom, also to Messrs Pope and Blyth, the thanks of the club are due. The captain acknowledged the kindness of the hosts and hostesses for whom three ringing cheers were piven before disnersi.nsr. ° The Soi'thern B.C. held a mn at Win"atui, there being a fair muster of members. In view of the approaching inter-club contest, the corrrse taken was somewhat similar to the irrter-elub course of last vear. A fast and «• stow pack were formed, 'with an interval of about five minutes l>etween each. Nearing home the slow pick was sighted, and gradumllv overhauled, the stragglers beimr overtaken near the racecourse. In the final sprint round the course Gamble and Crokpr went to the front. The thanks of the club arc due to the Jockev Club for the nee of dressing rooms.
