AN IMPUDENT IMPOSITION
■: v ' A “RICH COUSIN.*’ BLENHEIM, July 21. At the Police Court this morning Archibald M'Neill, who was wrested at Waimate a few days ago, after escaping from custody at Wellington, was charged with obtaining £2O from ah Awatere family of settlers by representing himself as a rich cousin, who had recently sold a cattle ranch in the Argentine, and was now worth £II,OOO. The accused had in reality just been discharged from the neighboring: Dumgree prison camp. The family---a most respectable 6ne—were deceived by the man’s plausible story, and actually permitted one of their daughters to proceed to Wellington with the pseudo cousin. He was convicted and sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment, with hard labor.
