OCEAN BEACH DOMAIN BOARD.

A special meeting of the Ocearf Beach. Domain Boa>rd was held yesterday afternoon; present—Messrs J. H. Hancock (chairman), Messrs I. Green, J. Arkle, and G. Hodges. The business wa£ to consider the draft of a Bill for vesting certain portions of the Domain in the City Council for rocreaAion and cemetery purposes. Tie Chairman read over the amendments in the draft of the Bill which hud been made by the Board's solicitors, and explained that the lands described in the fi*jst achedule (Chisholm Park) comprised about thirty-six acres and a-half. These were to be used for recreation purposes. The lands described in the second schedule, twenty-three acres, were foe cemetery purposes. Mr Green said that as the free use of the land was reserved to the genera] public, his Deposition to the alienation of the land in question was removed to a great extent. Mr Arkle thought that the lands shooM be vested in the Corporation on the some footing as other reserves. The right should be given the Corporation to charge for admission on certain days, the money to be spent. exclusively on the ground. It was possible that, it might become a, much-frequented place, and its upkeep would have to bo taken out of the City Council's general fund if there were no other means. Mr Green saiid that the real question of upkeep was the tmkeep of Lower Tomahawk road. The Chairman explained the position with regard to tho road, which had com« about since the passing of the Occam Beach Domain Amending Act of 1901. At the time when the vesting of the lands in question was first discussed there had been a verbal agreement that the City Council should undert3.ke the upkeep of the road. Tho question of proportion of upkeep to be contributed by the Board and the City Council depended on the interest which the respective bodies ha<l on either side of it. Mr Arkle sarid that the City Council would always have to maintain the road for the sake of the cemetery. In renly to Mr Green, the Chairman, said that the Board's revenue for all Durposes was about £250, and the upkeep. of the road required about £SO per' annum. Mr <*reen said that the of upkeep to be contributed by the Board ougihst to be clearly mentioood in the BUI, The Board had little revenue, and they were handing over this larce ajea to th«_ Cifcv Council. If ihe latter derived no revenue from the part frranted for recreation purposes, they would from that .vested in them for cemetery purposes. It was. therefore reasonable that the upkeep of the road should be a charge on the CorparaAaon funds. He would That the Bill as submitted be asmroved by this Board subject to a clause being added thereto for the upkeep by the Dunedm City Council of the road borandrag the area proposed to be alienated." This was seconded by Mr ArUe aawi carried.
