ST. JOHN'S CHURCH.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. John's Church, Roslyn, was held in the schoolroom last evening. Parishioners did not turn up in any great numbers to the business side of the function, but by the time the social portion commenced a large number of ladies and gentlemen were seated. Mr Spencer Brent (parish churchwarden) presided, and moved the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet. Mr Bolam seconded. He said that he thought the parish were to be congratulated in that they were ahead of their liabilities. The buildings were all in good order. Two members of the Vestry had secured a section at Maori Hill for the purpose of offering it to the Vestry as a site for a new Sunday school. It was thought that the site was an admirable one, and there was no doubt that it would receive the support of Maori Hill parishioners. No doubt the long wait for a new vicar had tried the patience of parishioners, but h'e felt sure that if they chose the right man the parish would not blame them for having taken time over it.—(Applause.) As a matter of fact, they hoped to be in a position to announce something to the parish during the week. Thanks were due to the Ladies' Parish Council for getting in subscriptions. Their work was most valuable. The Vestry regretted the necessity for closing the St. Albans Sunday School, and hoped to reopen it when the new vicar arrived. They hoped, also, during the year to take steps to put a new organ into the church. Amongst the labors of the year woiild be that of renovating the vicarage and improving the sanitary arrangements. They regretted the death of Mr Chase, one of the most consistent workers of the parish during the part of his lifetime spent in it. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without comment. The officials were elected as follows t Vicar's churchwarden, Mr W. I. Bolam; parish churchwarden, Mr Spencer Brent; vestrymen—Messrs C. D. Axlidge, F. M. Allan, 0. Balk, Sept. E. Brent, Austin Cook, C. H. Hayward. J. G. Lovett, G. H. Smith, A. Washer, J. Skottowe Webb.
The retiring auditors (Messrs W. Dawson and J. L. G. Wilson) were re-elected. Votes of thanks to the church workers concluded the business portion of the meeting. Mr Bolam was accorded a special vote for his arduous work as vicar's churchwarden, secretary, and treasurer. A short musical programme was dispensed by Miss K. Goycn, Messrs F. Blandford, R. Brent (who provided.graphophone selections), Gray, and Andrews. After refreshments had. been handed round the young people enjoyed a brief clanco.
