9, Q Saturda y an °U 111311 teamed James Mills was locked up in Ngaruawahia lockup, Auckland, on a charge of theft. A man named O’Brien, alias Dolan, was later put mto the same cell, also on a charge of theft. Constable Cavanagh searched both prisoners klore locldiig them up, and visited the cell at 12.30, when Mills appeared to be asleep. At six o’clock on Sunday morning O’Brien called out, and Constable Cavanagh went to see what was the matter. He was told that the prisoner had cut his throat, and an inspection by the constable revealed that this -was so. Tlie naan’s throat was cut right across, and he was quite dead.
