"PURE BEER."

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —A telegram from London, under date of the 17th March, says that a Public Bill has been introduced into the Imperial House of Parliament, with the object of regulating tho quality of beer supplied to the public for ordinary consumption. Doublets this has been introduced in consequence of the inferior stuff foisted upon the English community, who are largely given to beer-drinking as an ordinary portion of thsir doily food. The Government of this colony are frequently charged with unnecessary interference with the conduct of manufacturing and commercial concerns, but, fortunately, they have never been called upon to interest themselves with reference to the quality of the beer supplied to the colonial public. As a matter of fact, to my knowledge, the beer manufactured in Dunedin, by one firm at least, is made from the very best products obtainable, regardless of the cost of came, which in wme seasons will rise as much as 50 per cent, over the year before. Notwithstanding these extreme variations in cost, tlie firm I have in mind continue to mauufachrre, sell the same quality of beer at a uniform price, and in no instance will they alter the purity and perfection of their beer for the mere fact that the material may cost them so much more one season than another. I am not a beer drinker, bnt I appreciate the genuine character of the ale supplied in Dunedin, which has not only a local but an Australasian reputation. Anyone reading the telegram in last night’s issue of the ‘Star’ might be alarmed to think that he is drinking an impure article, but so fax as Dunedin beer is concerned, I know from practical knowledge that it is absolutely pure, and made from the very best products of the soil—l am, etc., Keithhaxl.
