DUNEDIN CITY MISSION.

The first meeting of the newly-elected Committee for this year was held at the Bible Depot on Wednesday afternoon,'when there were • present Messrs G. M. Thomson (in the chair), E. Rosevear (hon. treasurer), John A. D. Adams, John Barnes, John Blair, S. C. Phillips, A. Haig, George Reid, Peter Dick, and D. Wright (missionary). An apology for the absence of Mr Braithwaite was received. Mr G. M. Thomson was re-elected as president, Mr Rosevear as hon. treasurer, and ’ the Secretary was also re-elected. The following donations, etc., were reported:—A Lady, 10s ; E.D.„ 21s ; A, City Lawyer, 21s; A Member of Committee, 20s; attendance cards, £3 11s; A Business Firm, £2 2s; Russell street Hall, £1 2s Gel; Union street School, ss; Mrs 8., lOs 6d; Friends, £6 13s 4d. The usual accounts were passed for payment. Tho Missionary reported that a business firm had sent him, spontaneously and with hearty good wishes, an order for £75 (same as last year)* to be allocated as follows; General fund, £4O; towards the Good Samaritan fund and the children', £55. Whilst expressing to these generous donors most cordial thanks, the Committee wish also to acknowledge their indebtedness to all those who have during the past ten years sent their offerings with unfailing regularity. The usual visits in and around Dunedin have been paid to the aged and the sick, etc. The Sunday evening services at the liusrell street Hall is as well attended and as much appreciated as it was when etarted ten years ago. But in large measure tliis is duo to the fact that many willing workers (men and women) co-operate cheerfully. A happy and hopeful start has been made wdth Biblo-reading classes at Union street, High street, Albany street, George street, and Arthur street Schools, and never since this work began were there so many monitors and helpers. The first week there were present 825 boys and girls: the second week, 888; the third, 877. The boys are well to tho front, and are also most helpful. About 1,000 have been already enrolled. The highest number reached on one day was 230; three schools had 181, 180, ISO*; the lowest number was 120. All tho parts of the City Mission are in full operation, and the Committee reasonably hope for a prosperous year.
