THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN
A largely-attended meeting of Mr A. B. Barclay's main City Committee was held last evening at the committee rooms, Great King street. Several ladies were present, and after considerable campaign bnsinesa had been transacted the candidate addressed the meeting. Encouraging reports wen handed in. A meeting of Mr A. R. Barclay's Maori Hill Committee was also bold last night, when Mr A. Butterfield was elected permanent chairman and Mr Casey secretary. There was a good attendance, and varicras matters in connection with the campaign were discussed and settled. The Westland branch of the New Zealand Alliance has resolved to adhere to its previous decision not to nominate a candidate against the Premier for the Westland seat - , »■ ■■,, There are 6,837 names on the InvercargiU main roll, an increase of 1,511 orer the total appearing therr>on in March, 1900. The number struck off the old roll was 832, and the fresh claims totalled 2,343.
