THE WAITATI SHOW

The Waite ti Agricultural Society made a wise move in returning to early January for their annual fixture, and yesterday they were favored wifi ideal weather and a capital attendance. We would suggest to the r management that bn future occasions they should arrange with the Railway Department to issue excursion tickets. Had that course been adopted yesterday we are sure the district would have been patronised by large numbers from town, who, as it was, had no knowledge of the fixture, and therefore had no chance of taking advantage of the pleasant outing. In horses there were 130 entries, but cattle entries were very much inferior, only numbering about half of last years, which totalled 120. This is due to the backwardness of the season, in consequence of which stock are lacking in condiThe exhibits of dairy produce showed an improvement as compared with last , year, numbering about fifty. Swine entries numbered 7, poultry 9, and dogs 15 (all collies). The local band, under Bandmaster Wilson, made a very creditable appearance, seeing that they have only been in existence one year, during which period they have paid for their instruments and uniforms. Among the town visitors was Mr T. Mackenzie, M.H.R. for the district. The following is the prize-list:— HORSES. —Draughts.— Judges 1 Messrs J. Patrick {Taieri), T. Gawn (Taieri), and P.
