MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES
The Hope of Dunedin Lodge of Good Templars held their -weekly meeting on Friday evening, Bro. A. Crolly, C.T” presiding. Visitors were present from Lyttelton, Timaru, Palmerston, Hobart, ami Falkirk, and one from the African Grand Lodge —viz., Pis. Nellie, of the Army Nursing Corps. The latter delivered an address on the benefits she had known to result from good templary. One candidate was initiated. A committee was set up to arrange for the celebration of the lodge anniversary. Harmony was contributed by several members, Sisters Orr and M'Farlane presiding at the piano. The report of the delegate to Ashburton Convention was held over. A vote of thanks to the visitors and receiving the greetings from Ashburton District Lodge, Methvcn, and Mariner’s Pride (Lyttelton) closed an enjoyable meeting. The Dunedin District Lodge, 1.0.G.T.. held their regular meeting on Thursday evening in the Hope of Cavershani Lodge Room. The D.D.G.C.T., Bro. Sandilands, presided. Delegates were present from the Pioneer, Lily of the Valley, Hope of Dunedin, Alliance, Evergreen, Star of Freedom, and Hope of Gaversham Lodges, while Sis. Hughes (Auckland), Bro. Begg (Invercargill), and visitors from the Lifeboat Lodge, Timarn, were also present. Sis. Clark, the delegate to the Ashburton District Convention, presented her report. A discussion took place on the management of railway relTe'emert- rooms and the sale of intoxicating drinks. Several delegates spoke m strong terms of the behaviour of certain persons cm the night express to Christchurch on the 51st ult. It was resolved that the Executive petition the Minister of railways as to the abuse of these refreshment rooms. A lodge of instruction in subordinate work will be held by the District Lodge officers. Sister Hughes, representing the W.C.T.U., and Bro. Begg gave addresses. A vote of thanks to the Gaversham Lodge was responded to by Sis. F. Thorn, P.C.T. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Dunedin Lodge. M.U., was held in the M.U. Hall, Stuart sheet- ’the N.G. (Bio. H. D. Hills) presided. The N.G., on behalf of the delegates, gave :m account of the business clone at the district meeting. P.G. M'Bengali gave a description of an eventful mushroom hunt. One candidate was initiated. The visitors’ toast was responded to by P.P.G.M. Cable (Prince of Wales, Port Chalmers), N".G. Craig (Mosgiel), and P.G. Flynn (Hand and Heart).
