DELAYED TRAINS.

The following letter is in reply to a communication which has already been published :

Head Office, Raitwavs Department, Wellington, 30th March, 1904. Sir,—With reference to your letter of the 29th ult., complaining of the delay to the 7.30 a.m. train from Ravensbourne on that date, I have the honor to inform you that I have had the matter looksd carefully into, and find that the delay arose thiocgh unforeseen circumstances delaying one of the North-bound trains, which in turn delayed those running South. I learn, farther, from the inquiries made that from November last until the present month the particular train to which you refer was late five minutes on one occasion and twenty-one minutes on the 29th February, the date complained of; on all other occasions the train has been well up to time. The Railway Department is fully alive to the necessity for workers' trains running punctually, and spares no effort to secure that end. Occasionally, however, instances such as that which occurred on the 29th February will arise, despite the efforts made to prevent them., and the department, recognises that, in such instances travellers by the train will be subjected to some inconvenience. Arrangements have now been made by which it is hoped to prevent delays to the morning suburban trains from the causes you complain of, and, as alreadv indicated, no effort will be spared to ensure the punctual running of all suburban trains.—l have etc, ' ,T. RONATNK, General Manager. 11.I 1 . Kx. Cray, Mayor of West Harbor, Dnnedm.
