CASUALTIES.
The head of a man was found on the New Brighton (Christchurch) Beach on Easter Monday. There is no clue as to identity. The skull found on the beach near the mouth of the Waimakariri on Monday has been identified as that of James Nolan, who was reported missing on January 4. His wife and son identified the head. Nolan was a veteran, and belonged to the 92nd Regiment. He saw service in the Crimea Henry F. Clisby, aged seven, was playing with some bags of coal in Waverley street, Melrose, to-day, when one of them fell on him, resulting in the little fellow sustaining a fractured thigh. He was taken to the hospital for treatment NELSON, April 6. A shocking accident occurred on the steamer Haupiri this forenoon. A deck hand, Carl Boanden, a foreigner, was hauling in the hawser as the vessel was mooring to the wharf, when the steel wire rope coded round his right foot, taking the foot clean off at the ankle.
