TENNIS TOURNAMENT.

Tman Dat.—Mondat.

The- weather conditions yesterday were ■unfortunate. The morning was practically useless for play, and during the afternoon there were occasional showers. The result is that the tournament was unfinished, and had to be carried over into to-day. There were seme very interesting games played yesterday. White and Bundle met in* the third round of the Men's Championship Singles in the afternoon, and though White won, 6—o, 6—4, the game was keenly fought out. White played a great game, his net work winning much applause. At the beginning of the second set Bundle, who played a plucky, vigorous game all through, seemed to bo giving his opponent a pretty warm time. He lost ground several times, though, through double faults. Then White began to force the play and, " smashed" characteristically, eventually' overpowering his adversary. In the Men's Champion Doubles there was a smart tussle between the Brown brothers and P. Braithwuito and Gruar. The Browns seemed to be bustled a trifle at the. outset, but soon ssltled down, and eventually wpn by 6—4, 6—3. Their placing was capital. At times Braitbwaite end Gruar showed a lack of combination, almost amounting to getting in one another's way. There was also a good fight between Bauchop and Sinclair and Urt-n and Best in the same round. In the Men's Handicap Doubles tho game between Marks and Boyd and Patterson and C. J. Braithwaite (previously awarded to the latter by default) was reinstated. Marks's placing was admirable. The match in the third round of the Men's Handicap Doubles, between the four Invercargill men —Russell and Tucker sind M'Donald and Grefham—was a bright one. The smashing and volleying of the former pair was too good for their opponents, whose occabrilliancy was not sustained. Following arc the results of yesterday's play: MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES.
