CYCLING

Though, so far, nothing has hc-eu definitely fixed uj>. there is a chance (writes imr London corespondent) that Tommy Hal!, the crack pace follower, may pay a professional visit ro the colonies ere long. Without doubt Hall is the finest man behind motor-pacing we possess at the present time, but he is decidedly an unlucky rider. Tima after time he has tried to credit the Old Country with the world’s hour record during the past twelve mouths, but machine mishaps and pacing trmbits have always intervened until last Sunday, when at the Paris Velodrome the old “ Poly ” boy accomplished (be. unprecedented feat of riding 52 miles 508 yds in the hour, or nearly two miles more than Dangla’s previous rnotor- ] .-Lcud record. Hall’s opponents in the Hour's Record Race on Sunday were Henri Contenet, Paul Dangla, and the old-timer Emile Ruuhours. Dangla was the quickest, on the mark, but- Hall was the first to get behind his motor, manned by Cissac. Contenet was second in position, Dangla third, and lionhouTs last. Hall led for the first throe kilometres, and then gave way to Contenet, who got inside world’s records at five kilometres and lapped Bouhours, the latter showing none o£ his old dash. From here to the eleventh kilometre Contenet wiped out all previous bests, and then Tommy Hall came- upon the scene, passed Contenet and got inside world's records at 12 kilometres, ami from here to the finish gradually got away from the field, winning by over three kilometres, and setting up the batch of new world*', records appended : —■
