NORTH-EAST VALLEY BOROUGH.

The above Council met last evening, when there were present—The Mayor (Mr J. Eyans, in the chair) and Crs Green, Short, King, Rhodes, M'Gregor, Brittenden, Macandrew, and Wilson.—The Finance Committee reported that the sum of £286 had been paid into the bank, including £IOO, Government grant for Watt's bredge, and that the state of the accounts was as foi lows:—District fund account (dr), £I,OBO 3s 2d; special loan (cr), £482 2s 4d; drainage rate account (cr), £l3 17s Bd. Adopted.— The Works Committee reported having accepted the following tenders : —Metalling Mayhank road, Mr Collins, £3O; work on Clerk street, Messrs Pryor Bros., £B4 17s; work on Elm row, Messrs Pryor Bros., £25. The tommittee also reported on the state oi the various routine works going on in the borough, and made several recommendations of an everyday character. Adopted. —The General Committee recommended inter alia that the names of defaulters in the matter of sanitary fees be put in the hands of the borough solicitor with instructions tc take legal procedings. Adopted.—Mr E. G. Allen, M.H.R.. wrote under date Octobei 6 forwarding copy of a supplementary Order Paper showing an additional clause to the Municipal Corporations Act 1900 Amendment Act. 1903. which passed its committee stage that evening. The letter was received, and a motion of thanks to Mr Allen for his action in the matter wa.s passed.— The Secretary of the Presbyterian Church Board of Property wrote referring to a proposal of the Council to widen Calton terrace, and stating that after consideration the Board think it not advisable to give the strip of land required. The letter "was received, and a motion of regret at the Board's action was passed.—Cr Rhodes was appointed to represent the Council at the annual election of members of the Charifcabk Aid Board and the Hospital Board.—lt was mentioned by Cr Rhodes that a gentleman he knew had offered to float the loan foi the redemption of the nearly due £5.00 C loan for a commission of 1 per cent.
