Bell, the smallpox patient, is still improving, and the other occupants of Quail Island are well and contented.
The proposal to take the Gracchus to the wharf to ship her cargo from Lyttelton was received with great indignation in the borough. Dr Valentine (Acting Health Officer) said there was absolutely no danger with the precautions to be observed. It has been decided that the car. o will be taken off to the* vessel by lighters,' and the ship will not be berthed at the wharf at present. WELLINGTON, May 23. A person who boarded the Gracchus :at Port Chalmers was discovered here and vaccinated.
