MAGISTRATE’S COURT. (Before E H. Carew, E«q., S.M.) Sievwright Bros, and Co. (for whom Mr James appeared) v. William Lindsay (Wellington).—Claim, £33 6s Bd, money lent— Judgment by default for the amount claimed, with costs. J. Wilkie (for whom Mr Moore appeared) v. Alfred Camcross (Eltham). —Claim, £1 17s 3d, for goods supplied.—Judgment by default, with costs. R. T. Wheeler, juu. (for whom Mr Moore appeared) v. Peter Beggs (Southland).— Claim. £36 16s 9d, on a promissory note.— I Judgment by default, with costs. Thomas Blair v. William T. Scrymgeour (Teviot). —Claim, £27 3s 4d, wages due. Mr W. C. MacGregor appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Chapman for the defendant, who paid £l9 3s 4d, with £1 11s costs, into court.—His Worship gave judgment for the plaintiff for the amount paid into court, no costs being allowed the defendant. CITY POLICE COURT. (Before C. C. Graham, E»q., S.M.) Drunkenness.—Peter Lenton and William Howell were each fined 10s, a first offender ss, and James Connell 20s. Polluting a Footpath.—Kennedy Kinnard, charged with polluting the footpath in Walker street, pleaded as excusa that he was a stranger and unwell.—His Worship, after hearing the evidence, characterised the explanations as nonsense, and sentenced defendant to forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. A By-laws Case.—Thos. Lee, charged with leaving a dray unattended in Lower High street, was defended by Mr Payne, and pleaded not guilty, so as to get in evidence to show that he was not to blame.— His Worship dismissed the case and cautioned the defendant.
