IN DEFENCE OF MR BARCLAY.

TO THE KniTOH. Sir,—Touching Mr Wilford's reference to Mr Barclay's pro-Boerism (vide your 'Parliamentary Gossip,' Tuesday), it was a stab in the back. Mr Barclay ia regarded amongst us hero in the Hpnse as a man moving .amongst men. Not one, except Mr Wilford, has a word to say against him. We all have a good word to say for him. He is always at his post in the House—a contrast to Mr Wilford's average of attendance for the session: one hour per day. Mr Barclay fills a distinct place in the House. We like his thorough good nature, and he is always a straight-goer. Wo should feel very sorry to lose him. We have forgotten the pro-Boer. We shall never forget the man. I repeat, it was a stab in the back.—l am, etc., " Geo. Fisher. Wellington, September 26.
