- Th* Supreme Court was occupied 1 to-day with a case of some importance as affecting the question, of residence on- Orownv lands under lease in perpetuity. The Land Board forfeited the lease of Tanfield Thompson r on tike grounds of non-compliance with the residential conddtioas, and this decision wtes appealed against^ CHBJSTCHUBCH, September 30'. James Maher, licensee -of the Oxford Hotel, at the Magistrate's Court this morning was fined £lO and costs for. keeping a barmaid employed after 11 p.m. . HOKTETKA, September 30: At the Supreme Court, in Rex v. Gregory, the case "for the Crown closed this morning.' 'Mr Guinness, for accused, applied for * remand till Thursday to enable further evidence to be obtained from Murchison. His Honor consented to the adjournment. _ Hilleir v. Jacobs, a charge of common nuisance for erecting a building on a public highway, is now proceeding.
