The Admiralty's chartered transport collier Mercedes brought from Hongkong i-n entire orew of Chincss—thirty-nine deck hands and stokers. The European crew will be discharged at Wellington. As the captain is liable to £IOO penalty nnder the Immigration. Registration Act for each Chinese desertina, the crew were not allowed shore kavc The enginemen are Chinese, and this is caused by the extreme difficulty all coal transports have had in' controlling crews in port.
