THE GENERAL ELECTIONS

TO BE HELD IN NOVEMBER. [From Our Pabuauektart Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 26. Some time ago I stated that the elections would certainly be held in November. More recently the opinion was expressed that, owing to the rolls not being in a sufficiently forward state, the poll would be held at the usual time —the first week in December. It would now seem that my original surmise was justified. The' campaign will probably be at its height in the third week of November. Preliminary arrangements are being harried on, and barring some nnforaeen difficulty the elections will be completed before St, Andrew’s Day is on us. Tenders for the printing of the main rolls and the gazetting of returning officers may be looked for at an early date. THE TAIERI SEAT. , The member for Taieri (Mr Carncros?) is in receipt of quite a number of letters urging him to again contest the Taieri seat. St-.ne of the letters come from electors who have in the past strenuously opposed him, bnt who now promise him strong rapport if he will contest the coming election. His friends in the House are strongly urging him to stand either for his old seat or a North Island scat, as they are sorry to hear of his intended retirement. One of the North Island seats, it is said, would be a certainty for him if he consented to. run for it.

FEILDING, September 26, Mr Tompkins, a candidate for theOrona electorate, addressed the electors at Halcomb© last evening, and received a vote of thanks.

INGLEWOOD, September 26. Mr H. Brown has replied to a requisition, declining to stand, on the ground of private business.

WAIPAWA, September 26. The heaviest fall, of snow for many years occurred last night.
