In the gnprimary of the evidence given before the Transport Commissioners, published in the ‘Star’ on Wednesday, the following appears:—“ Quart ennastcr-captain lewin said there was no ration of spirits or beer issued to the men, bat they were allowed to purchase liquor on board.” Quartermaster-captain 1 Lewin now . states that the men were not allowed to purchase any liquor whatever from the ship’s stores, but the Admiralty had placed a large quantity of draught beer on board the Bntannic, which, by'regulation, the men were allowed to purchase at the rate of erne pint per man per diem. The beer was supposed to be. drunk at the mid-day meal, and the cost was Id per pint. Even then the issue was only authorised _by the sanction of the officers commanding regiments. ■
