PRODUCTION OF GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS.
Byrne v. Peck (defendant), an appeal against a fine of £2O or seven days imprisonment, by Mr Hawkins, S.M., for refusing to produce railway papers in connection with the case, came before the District Court at Greymonth yesterday. Judge Ward dismissed the appeal, allowing £5 6s costs, but mode an order that the striking out of the appeal would not take effect for seven days, lie order virtually suspends any proceedings on the penalty for another seven days, and from indications during the legal argument it is presumed that the Railway Department wifi taka the case to the Supreme Court in regard to the magistrate’s order committing Peck, the enginedriver, for contempt.
