The City Council have decided to send Home their electrical engineer to facilitate the acceptance of tenders for work in connection with the electric tramways. Th-' Council consider that this plan will he le»> costly than leaving the tenders to the decision of an advisory board, or having them sent to and from Homs by mail. The Public Works Department has accepted the tender of Mr A. Shaw, Dunedin, for £4,799 for the erection of a combined road and railway bridge over the Mataura River near Biversdale. The thief was evidently conversant with Fowler’s movements. June 90. A man named Horace Church left his home at Wild Bush in a boat last Sunday to go to Riverton. The heat was found in the river, but there was no trace of Church, who was supposed to have been drowned. It is now discovered that ha left the Bluff by the Mokoia for Hobart on Tuesday. A domestic quarrel is said to have prompted the escapade. Church has left a wife and three children behind. DANHEYIRKB, June 20. The Hon. Mr Hall-Jpnes was entertained at a banquet by the citizens last night The function was a great success. In his speech the Hon.
