WORK AND WAGES.

REEPTON, February 7. At the annual meeting of the Westland Trades and Labor Council a resolution was passed extolling the British Government on their conduct of the war. The Workers’ Compensation, the Employers’ Liability, and the .arbitration and Conciliation Acts were discussed. While adhutting that these measures had conferred great benefits on the workers, the Council considered that there were some clauses in the Acts which could be altered with great advantage, especially in the direction of retaining Conciliation Boards, as provided in the original Act With reference to section 22 of the Workers’ Compensation Act, the delegates were of opinion that illegitimates should have all the rights of legitimates, aad in the event of death from accident those dependent on such persons should have the right to recover; and that clauses 216 and 217 of the Mining Act and clauses 52 and 63 of the Coal Mines Act, which are repealed by the Workers’ Compensation Act, should be re-enacted. This latter matter was regarded as important, as it usually affects claimants for damages in case of accidents.
