A DESERVED DRESSING DOWN.
Prase Association—Bj Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, February 6.
Mr Barton characterises Mr Philp’s *emarks on Federation as “popgun criticism, calculated to scare nobody but himself.” Before tlie referendum Mr Phdp posed as an ardent Federalist, but his action since had tended tc the conclusion that he never really understood what Federation implied. Changes of a comprehensive character such as theirs were always open to an accompaniment of these irritations of which Mr Pbilp complained. Hie life of their Federation solely depended upon public opinion. Mr Philp retorts that sorry Mr Barton is so angry, that be (Mr Barlonj knows very little about Queensland, aid the pity of it was that he would not learn. [Mr Philp should study history. Thera was iritation immediately succeeding the establishment of the Canadian Dommion, the muon of the Northern and Southern States of Amejica after the Civil War, and (to come nearer home) the abolition of our own provincial form of government, hot j # statesman worthy of the name expectei otherwise or commenced protesting to it world Ss Mr Philp and others are doing.]
