THE EIGHTH CONTINGENT.
[Spbcux. to thb Stab,] CHRISTCHURCH, February 7. Trouble has arisen over the shipment of horses for the Eighth, owing to the restriction of the number below that which was expected. Five hundred and seventy-six horses only are to be taken on the Cornwall, and consequently some of the. troops have been compelled to return as many as twelve horses to the camp. Besides these detachment remounts numbering about thirty are still awaiting embarkation. The s.s. Rotomahana and Moura are to accompany the Cornwall to the Heads tomorrow.
