DELHI EMBROIDERY.

EXHIBITION OP WORK IN DUNEDIN

Hand-wftrked embroidery by the deft and skilful fingers of the workers of * India commands considerable attention in European market«. The embroiderers of India spend months, and in some cases years, in the completion of a single article—be it window curtain or gorgeous robe—every minute detail in the working out of an artistic design being executed with that scrupulous exactitude which is characteristic of the people. Many of the workers are descendants of families that have for hundreds of years been engaged in the embroiderers' art, and the artistic faculty is consequently very highly developed. Wo observe that Messrs Herbert, Haynes, and Co., of this City, are just now displaying a special importation of thc?e artistic goods in their large show windows in Princes street, and judging by the attention they attract from the crowds of ladies who inspect them, the exhibition is a particularly attractive one to the fair sex. The articles consist of hand-worked and elaboratelyembroidered curtains, table covers, valances, portieres, table centres,' cushion . covers, mantel drapes, eoic- covers, piano screens, ball and reception aress and all the knick-knacks of skilled needlework that go to beautify the artistically-furnished home. These goods, we understand, are bein"- disposed of at landed cost, and for wedding presents, birthday gifts, etc, they cannot be excelled. Those of our lady citizens who take an interest in high-class embroider" should not fail to inspect this special exhibition of the skill of Indian workers. _____
