ROSLYN BOWLING CLUB.

The eighteenth, annual meeting of the Roslya Bowling Ctnb was held last evening m the Roslyn Council Chambers. Mr A. Matheson occupied the chair, and there were thirteen members present. The following oimaal report was presented:—

Although from a bowling podnj of view the season has not been bo successful as it might have been, the year has been a quietly progressive one, and we now have forty-seven members on our roll, as against forty-two last year—an increase of five. Of the Association matches tho crab won only three namely, those against Caledonian, Green Island, and Port Chalmersbeing beaten by St. Clair, Dunedin, Kaitaioa, and Taieri. A strong team, too, which took part in the tournament ot Christchurch was unsuccessful in tho way of trophies—bringing home with them only a lively testimony to the unfailing hospital ity and kindness with which they had been treated by our Northern confreres. We hope this year, however, to do better than last, and, amongst other things, to have more sunshine, for it is worthy of record that during the time the green was open for play (between October 13 and May 25 following) rain foil on more than 100 days. And it was only owing to the time and attention bestowed on the green by Mr Dobb that it played «> -well as it did throughout the season. The club's prizes were distributed at the special general meeting held on May 27 last, and were won as follows:—Mr Roach's price by Mr R. Crawford ; vice-presidents (for players who have never won a prize) by Mr Dobb; subscription pairs by Mr D. Scott and Captain Davies; president's special rink prize by Messrs Dobb, Bentley, Bone, and Matheson (skip). The lease of the green having expired, the Committee, after some negotiation with tho landlord, succeeded in getting a renewal for the term of fifteen years from October 16 last at the same rental as hitherto, with a purchasing clause. They hope this will be considered a satisfactory arrangement. The members will be pleased to hear that the club b«s been presented with a flagpole by the secretary, and that tho president has kindly given the necessary flag. Mr Yuill and Mr Dobb did the fixing, and Mr D. Scott completed tho gift by gilding the truck.

We have to record with extreme regret the death of Mr Walter Carlton, which took place in the early part of the year.

In December last Mr Roach found it necessary, owing to pressure of business, to resign the office of president. Mr J. Scoular consented to accept tho office, and his appointment has given, general satisfaction.

The Chairman, in moving the adpptfcm of the report and balance-sheet, said that the last season, had been somewhat disappointing as far as bowling -was concerned, and be thought that acconnted for the lack of enthusiasm exhibited by members. They had had an increase of five in their membership, and he hoped this number would be increased further. With regard to the team which -went to Christehureh, although they had not been successful in •winning anything, yet they had been beaten by the champion team by only 1 point. He could honestly say that he had never seen such a fine game played as that between the Roslyn and the winning rinks, Mr D. Scott showing excellent form. The club could congratulate themselves on having such a capable lot of players in their midst. The financial aspect was very good, though the credit balance was small, and as the liabilities of the club were practically wiped out they could face the future cheerfully.—The motion was adapted unanimously. The following officers were elected t President, Mr J. B. CaOan: vice, Mr 0. Balk; treasurer, Mr W. C. Alinutt; secretary, Mr Arthur Clothier (re-elected for the third successive time, with applause); committee—Messrs D. Scott, R. H. Scott, R. Crawford, G. Pram, and Captain Paterson : auditors, Messrs R. T. Wheeler and A. E. Bone; delegates to Association, the president and secretary for the time being.

Mr Matheson then vacated the chair in favor of the new president, Mr J. B. Callan. who returned thanks for his election. He said that he hoped they would have a prosperous season. The gTeen promised to be as good as ever, and with enthusiastic bowlers, fine weather, and an increased membership they should have am enjoyable season. It was resolved that the season be opened on October 9 (Labor Day), subject to the approval of the Green Committee. The officers of the past season were cordially thanked for their services. It was resolved that the delegates be instructed to ventilate the subjects of printing and publishing the report and balance-sheet and the desirability of establishing an. executive committee on the Association.

The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
