AUCKLAND. September 28. The New Zealand amateur golf championship meeting starts on Monday next. and will be brought to a conclusion on Saturday, October 5. Dr Campbell will formally open Cornwall Park links for play to-day, at 3 p.m., when members of the Auckland Golf Chib will hold an "at home." and an exhibition fonrsotnc (Dunedin and Wellington against Auckland and .Christehcrrcb) will be played over a ten- , holes course. The following is the draw for the first round of the championship:—Higginson v. Duncan; Knha v. Hudson; Lawrence v. •Percy; Kyd v. A. Duncan: Colheck v. Sykes; Howden v. Scotl : Tareha v. Saunders. Byes: Wilder. Stronach, Humes*, Bull, Pearcc, 0. E. S. Gillies. O'Rorkc. •J'eeL and H. Gillies.

The Auckland ' Star's' golf contributor Bays t— "Duncan is playing in great, form. End should have no difficulty in getting into the final. The ' greater nnmlier of ■fcrong placers arc on the other side of the draw, and of these 0. E. S. Gillies will probably try conclusions with Mr Duncan lor the final. He is to some extent haudicapped by his duties as secretary, which, in a meeting of this nature, are no sinecure He will probably meet H.wrv Gillies, and I should not be surprised to see this re»nlt in a close and interesting match, as H. Gillies has been playing well lately. Besides the championship, there are a handicap (eighteen holes), for medal: a match (eighteen holes); an 'inter-club challenge vase driving competition; and (if tune permits) a foursome bogey match over eighteen holes, and other matches; so that competitors can look forward to a good week's golfing."
