BLACKMAILING POLICE
This is how Justice Jerome, of New York, recently expressed himself regarding the corruption of the New York police: “ The police force are an organised gang of blackmailers. Everybody knows t. Prominent police officials have been charged by respectable citizens with felonies. Why don’t they bring criminal libel suits? They haven’t got the sand. Why, in England men who have had charges made against them such as the officials of New York have thrown at them would have twentyfour hours to bring criminal libel suits or resign. I am sick and tired of the hypocrisy of it all. Respectable citizens assert that there is not a single city department which is not corrupt, except* possibly the finance department. The charges arc made openly, and arc not refuted.”
