CASUALTIES.
Another cas'i of drowning occurred at Port Chalmers at 11 p.m. yesterday. William Troy, one of the greasers of the steamer Karamea, while going down the George street pier, fell overboard, with fatal results. Deceased, with his brother (Robert Troy) was walking down the pier, and when close to the vessel walked on the outside of the trucks, close to lhe water's edge, while his brother walked down on tho inside. William Julicr, night- watchman to the Union Company, hearing a splash in the water, and knowing the deceased had just passed him, gave the alarm of a man overboard. Sergeant Georin and Constable Bosworth (who were on duty close to the pier), with the assistance of others, recovered the body about half an hour afterwards. Dr Borrie, who was in attendance, applied the usual remedies, but without success. A subsequent examination showed no marks of violence The body was then conveyed to the morgue, pending an inquest. MASTERTON, September 17. C. A. Pinkertbn was |pund dead with his bead in a tub containing about Bin of water. His hands were grasping the sides. A verdict of heart failure and asphyxia was returned. Deceased was fifty-five years of age, and leaves a- widow and family. Ho was the first storekeeper on the Grey, and bore the reputation of being one of the best accountants in the district.
