Drunkenness.—A first- offender was convicted and discharged. Annie Whitley, an old .offender, was charged on remand with drunkenness on thsj 21st inst.. having been twice convicted of the same offence within the past six months.—The Sub-inspector said that the Salvation Army authorities had been communicated with, and had expressed their willingness to take the accused into their Home.—Lieutenant Sparks, who was present, said, in reply to His Worship, that she was aware of Whitley's record, and the unsuccessful attempts that had been made to effect her reformation.—Accused was then convicted and discharged. Disorderly Conduct.—Charles Gviffen, who pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct m Stuart street last night, was convicted and discharged ; and Michael M‘Auley. who was arrested yesterday afternoon for creating a disturbance in front of the Agricultural Hall, pleaded not guilty, and was fined 10s.

Damaging Property.—Sarah Hewitt and Mary Besan, fur damaging property valued at 255. of John Baplow. licensee of the Caleif.mian Hotel, yesterday afternoon, were each fined 20s, half the damage, done, and 6s costs.—Mr Hanlon appeared for the prosecutor, and Mr Calvert for the accused. Quitting a Train While in Motion.—Mati, a, Fijian, pleaded guilty to a charge of quitting a train while in motion last night at tho Dunedin railway station.—The Sub-inspector said that accused was knocking about the railway station last night, and was slightlv uiulcr the influence of drink. He got on a train that was shunting, and when down about Stuart street tried to jump off.—Fortunately one of the railway employes was standing there, and caught* him just as he was falling under one of the carriages, and but for tho. timclv assistance of the official ho would have been killed.—Tho captain of the Maori, to which vessel Mati belongs, undertook to take the man back to the boat,' and to look after him, and on this understanding accused was convicted and discharged.
