J The local master butchers have decided, owing to the continuous high rates ruling for stock and also short supplies, to increase the retail cash price of meat a halfpenny per pound immediately. I Information has been received that the proposed magnetic observatory for this city will be established shortly, "it is unfortunate that it is not already established, becauso the Antarctic expedition shortly to leave London would probably have made New Zealand its base of operations, whereas it is now the intention to proceed from Melbourne.
